Wellness - what does it mean in this modern world


Most people think of physical health when they hear the term “wellness”. In fact, wellness refers to various aspects of our health, and is more important today, what with the never ending stresses of this fast paced world, than ever!


There are three main aspects of wellness that we need to maintain in order to stay happy and healthy and all three need to be balanced in order for this happiness and peace to be maintained.


Physical Wellness:


Physical wellness is created and maintained though healthy eating, exercise and a good sleep routine. In order to achieve physical wellness, avoiding things such as smoking, drugs and limiting alcohol and other toxins from entering your body. It is also important to go for regular check-ups with a GP and dentist.


Spiritual Wellness:


Spiritual wellness is the ability to find a way to channel your spirit into something positive. You may follow a set spiritual sect, such as paganism or an omnipotent God. Spiritual wellness is not, however, reliant on a belief in a higher power religion. It can simply be connecting with yourself through exercises such as meditation and yoga.


Mental Wellness:


Mental wellness can often be tied to physical wellness, as an unhealthy mind can often lead to an unhealthy body. Depression may result in substance abuse, emotional binging and lethargy, so maintaining a healthy mental state is vital. Millions of people suffer from some kind of mental illness-from depression, to bipolar disorder. Stress is also detrimental to mental wellness, so finding ways to manage stress, whether it be through meditation, exercise or even seeking medical advice, can ensure you are at a good state of mental health.
