Debbie Howes – Psychologist, Hypnotherapist & Complementary Healing

Debbie is a clinical psychologist in private practice in the south of Johannesburg, South Africa. She has been practicing since 1986 and qualified at Potchefstroom University. Her masters thesis investigated a movement therapy called the Feldenkrais System of Awareness through movement. This technique was studied relative to the effects of depression, anxiety and self-concept.

Debbie travelled the world extensively for 6 years and when she returned began her journey of complementary therapies including Reiki, yogic healing, body alignment technique, crystal healing, pranic healing and healing through sound. This complimented her exploration of meditation techniques that she began at age eighteen. Among these are included Zazen Buddhist Meditation, Sahaj Marg (the natural way), sumo ching hai technique, transcendental meditation, and the melchizedek flower of life merkaba meditations.

Subsequently Debbie underwent the training provided by the clinical hypnosis society and progressed to phase iii of eriksonian, ego state therapy and medical hypnoanalysis. She also completed level ii of EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), as well as level ii of EMI (eye movement integration) therapy.

Debbie combines these skills and knowledge and has formulated a unique therapy which includes a projective drawing technique which is a culmination of her journeys work thus far. The technique involves the analysis, interpretation and utilisation of the childrens story little red riding hood. A book is written which describes the therapeutic technique itself.

Debbie also provides a unique form of body therapy that incorporates reiki, crystals, sound and toning, using pressure points, meridians and pulse rhythms. She is instinctively and intuitively guided to sense each persons energy field and being, making each treatment unique and particular to that individual. She can intuit where the energy blockages are and from where difficulties originate. She was on a radio program hosted by Kate Tarkington and has presented papers and talks at international congresses. She also runs regular courses on reiki , healing.as well as a unique form of movement therapy called `e-motion (energy in motion).
