The Mystic Cat is owned and run by partners in life, business and adventure, Shaz & Russell Perks.

As the global environmental crisis has become more dire, so has our desire to live a more sustainable lifestyle. One that has a gentler footprint on the earth and is more in harmony with nature. In early 2019, we found our little paradise – a small off grid plot of land in the Overberg of Western Cape.

This land, surrounded by mountains, waterfalls and a river, is the home of The Mystic Cat. It is from here that we continue to develop, grow and build our vision, and run The Mystic Cat online shop – completely off grid, naturally. We are co-creating a space that our souls have called for. We look forward to sharing our experiences and tools with others, and hope to inspire those who long for change too, to answer their own soul calling.

Shaz owned a crystals & esoteric shop called Earth DNA, first in KwaZulu Natal (Valley of 1000 Hills) and then in Cape Town (Plumstead), which closed its doors after a decade of trading in 2017. The Mystic Cat online shop, opened in 2019, is the rebirth of her intention to connect people to tools for spiritual growth. Together with Russell, we have created this unique online shopping experience from our completely off grid base.

MEET SHAZ:

Shaz is madly passionate about growing our own food as well as medicinal plants. She’s been an avid gardener for most of her life, co-creating organic gardens that function as an ecosystem. She is dedicated to the responsibility of Earth Stewardship.

Her spiritual philosophy is nature based.
Aside from extensive self study and exploration of many different spiritual modalities, she studied Wicca under two High Priestesses following different theologies for several years, and was initiated as a High Priestess herself. She was then given an opportunity to apprentice under an American Shaman and learnt from the Twisted Hair tradition. She has led many circles and performed ceremonies & handfastings in both KwaZulu Natal and Cape Town.

Shaz had a Crystal & Esoteric shop called Earth DNA for over a decade. First online (way ahead of it’s time), and then with a physical shop in KZN which she later relocated to Cape Town when she moved.

She loves sharing with people how to work with crystals in their every day lives.

MEET RUSSELL

Russell is a yoga and meditation teacher.
Having developed his practice for over a decade, he went on to complete a 200 hour Yoga Alliance approved teaching certification from the Source, where he facilitated yoga classes and meditation courses until our move to the farmstead.

At the beginning of 2019 he founded Zanta yoga, through which he offers classes and courses for studios, as well as offering tailored classes for small groups and individual home sessions.
His meditation classes offer people the opportunity to explore techniques of training the mind to go within and experience calm, stillness, relaxation and peace.

He is called to help people live happier, healthier lives!

He is passionate about the environment, loves spending time outdoors and hiking.
Russell is deeply drawn to sacred geometry, and loves combining sacred geometry with crystals in crystal grids.

Another of Russell’s passions is photography – the stunning, world class crystal photographs on our online shop definitely showcase his talent!
